Birthday Bash Blogfest: Finalists Announced!!

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their lovely blog birthday wishes! Yes, I am looking forward to the year ahead, whatever it may bring!

And now, the moment I'm sure you all have been waiting for: the finalists of the Birthday Bash Blogfest drabble competition! As usual, the breadth and quality of entries were astounding, and with great difficulty I have managed to narrow the field down to three finalists.

I have copied their entries into the post for easier reading. Each one starts with the same phrase "A lot can happen in a year…"

In no particular order, here are the finalists…

Jake Henegan @ Writing in Media Res

"A lot can happen in a year…"

Those were the words my mother had uttered when I told her I wanted to train with the Knights.

"We've been fine for ten, mother."

My father died when I was little. My sister and I were all that my mother had left. We often worried that bandits would attack our homestead. I knew I wouldn't be able to fight them off. But if I trained with the Knights, I could protect my family and my land.

I returned home, after a year, armed with the skill to fight off bandits, but I had only cinders and rubble to defend.

Damyanti Ghosh @ Daily (w)rite

I waited each Friday for the doorbell, let mother open the door, show him to the piano, call me for lessons. Our playing soothed mother into her afternoon nap.

Mother did not know that little by little, our fingers had strayed. We took turns, playing the piano and each other, casting furtive glances at the door.

One December afternoon, mother woke up before her usual time. Soon after, he left.

Little by little, just as if nothing at all had happened, time started again. It hasn't stopped since.

A lot can happen in a year…

You can decide to become an indie author in spite of the fact that an approaching menopause slows down your thoughts and processes. You can notice you went one step down in the staircase of life and know that you will have to adjust to it before you can keep going. You can be aware of time flying by and wonder what happened to those previous years that look so far away now – almost like another life. You can learn to live in the present, accept who you are or turn your life upside down. You can blog about life!

Congratulations, guys! And thanks to everyone who participated! Now it is up to you, readers, to choose your winner! The poll below is open till July 28th, and I will announce the winner on July 29th!

Also, don't forget, that if you sign up to receive my newsletter by July 29th, you will receive free and exclusive access to my never-before-published horror novelette, The Doll! I'm hoping to send out the first issue on July 30th!
