J.C. Martin is a butt-kicking bookworm: when she isn't reading or writing, she teaches martial arts and self-defence to adults and children.
After working in pharmaceutical research, then in education as a schoolteacher, she decided to put the following to good use: one, her 2nd degree black belt in Wing Chun kung fu, and two, her overwhelming need to write dark mysteries and gripping thrillers with a psychological slant.
Her short stories have won various prizes and have been published in several anthologies. Oracle is her debut novel. Born and raised in Malaysia, J.C. now lives in south London with her husband, son, and three dogs.
7 Interesting Facts:
- I speak English, Malay, and four Chinese dialects: Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Hokkien. But English is the only language I can confidently say that I'm fluent in.
- Despite the fact that I come from a country renowned for its spicy food, I can NOT take hot foods: chillies, curries, hot sauces.
- I am quite severely trypanophobic: my blood pressure goes up at the thought of an injection, I cannot watch someone getting injected, and I have now gone 8 years without a needle piercing my skin.
- My favourite dog breed is the Chihuahua. Apart from the fact that they are just too cute, I can relate to them: like me, they are tiny in size and stature but have BIG personalities and attitudes!
- I can't drive.
- Like all Malaysians, I LOVE food, and have eaten everything from goose feet to pig's ears, from jellyfish to sheep's tongue. I've even had balut (unhatched duck foetus). But out of principle, I draw the line at shark's fin.
- My top 3 dream holiday destinations: Australia, the Maldives, Greece.
